Philadelphia Parent Meeting

We will be hosting an informational meeting tonight in the A.P. room for fifth grade parents in regards to our annual trip to Philadelphia. I look forward to seeing all who can attend tonight at 7:00.

Holiday Party, A Note to Parents

We will be celebrating the holiday season on Wednesday, 12/23. All plans are nearly finalized and a more formal letter will be sent home either Wednesday or Thursday.

The gist is this: We will meet for lunch with Ms. Lohman’s and Mrs. Kraus’s classes at 12:05 in the All Purpose Room. Mexican food, including tacos, is being provided. We are still waiting on a final cost, though it should be cheap (approx. $2/student).

Following lunch, we will return to our classroom where a Mexican market will be set up. Students will exchange small (and I mean small) gifts with each other.

What students will be providing:

22 small gifts for exchange
- these should be both cheap and tiny
- homemade gifts are highly encouraged, e.g., bracelets, paper flowers, etc.
A basket to collect gifts, able to accommodate 22 small items
Anything else deemed pertinent, e.g., display for product, rug to set up on, Mexican attire, sombrero, etc.
A small sum for taco feast (yet to be determined)

Unit 2 Math Assessment

Friday is a busy day. In the morning we will be enjoying our first field trip of the school year. In the afternoon we will be taking our second math assessment. This exam will assess your knowledge on place value (from thousandths to billions), comparing and rounding whole numbers and decimals, adding and subtracting decimals, as well as any prior content from unit one.

Remember our study techniques. Good studiers review all their notes. They go over any worksheets they have, paying close attention to any problems they got wrong, and redoing them. Good studiers also design their own practice questions then check their answers with a calculator.

Remember: increased effort = increased success

Friday’s Field Trip

As you all know, Friday is our field trip to Wertheim Nature Preserve and the recycling center. However, I will not be seeing you until Wednesday so I just wanted to mention two things.

1st: All parents who previously expressed interest in coming on our trip are welcome to join. However, as we are taking a single bus for two classes (ours and Kraus’s) we can not fit everyone. You may be asked to follow behind; please plan accordingly.

2nd: We will be eating our lunch at the Preserve, at a time to be decided upon arrival. Be sure to eat a full breakfast, as we will have limited snack time before we leave. And a bag lunch is a must.

I hope Monday went well. Enjoy your day off tomorrow. See you Wednesday.
